Dog surrendered to Rescue because: Other
Other Reason: I recently lost my other dog to liver disease. I have been absolutely heartbroken and found that I can no longer care for this lovely dog. This re-homing is by no means his fault. I just feel that I do not have a close enough connection with him now that my other dog has passed.
Good With: other dogs, strangers, cats, kids
Dog Likes: water, retrieving, car rides;
Working Ability: unknown
Working Comments:
Behavioral Problems:
Other Behavioral Problems:
Bitten? No
Bite Explanation:
Commands known: Sit
Tricks: He sort of knows sit. He's getting better every day. He also knows "Off" which I use to ask him to get off my bed as he is quite the bed hog.
Other Info: This is a Chessie that is true to his roots. He LOVES fetch and squeaky balls are his favorite thing in the whole world. He is fantastic with other dogs and is nothing but friendly. He is wonderful with my kitten and doesn't chase her around the house at all. He would do wonderfully with a doggy sibling or alone. He is true to the breed and needs consistency as well as plenty of outside time. He is a great cuddle buddy and couch potato too. He will go in his crate but is sometimes hesitant to go inside. I give him treats to reward him when he goes in his crate properly but haven't had the time to fully crate train him. It seems as if his previous owner may have bullied him into the crate which may be why he isnt a fan of going inside it. He just needs someone to show him the ropes and be consistent with his training. Tucker will be a wonderful companion, running partner or adventure partner. He is quite confident and game for just about anything. He doesn't seem to realize how big he is so small children might not be the best for him as he might unintentionally knock them over with excitement. I have DNA test results to prove that he is indeed 100% purebred Chesapeake bay retriever. I do not have his breeding information as he was adopted from a rehoming situation through a shelter.
