Other Behavioral Problems:
Bitten? Yes
Bite Explanation: Nipped at sleeve of visitor and nipped at owners 10 year old child when dog got annoyed with being repeatedly scratched on ear.
Commands known: Sit, Stay, Down, Come, Heel, Bathroom
Tricks: Will hold steady on command for treat or prior to going outside. But hard to hold steady before retrieving toy unless using e-collar or holding his collar. High Drive for Retrieving and finding scent.
Other Info: We rescued him at 9 months old, and believe he is lacking of early socialization and that is what creates this dogs issues. Buddy needs to work everyday outside (fetching)he loves and needs exercise and then he is much more obediant and lovable. He loves to retrieve to the extreme and will be annoying until he gets his fix. He spends the day in the house with no accidents, and sleeps otherwise, he likes the sunny spot on the carpet but also will lay down in the snow and nap. He is protective over territory (house and yard). He can be controlled by owner to prevent him from going after strangers by leash or electronic collar. Electric invisible fence collar trained, this works well and he respects the boundaries. He will Respond to very small level of correction, even just having the e-collar on makes him a very good listener. He has however nipped at a 10 yr old family member when the dog got annoyed from being petted too much, the 10 yr old child was preoccupied with a movie and did not pay attention to the dog's signs of annoyance. This dog hasn't hurt anyone severely yet, just nipping so far, but we are not able to take the chance. It is hard for us to always kennel him when the kids have friends over to the house as well. He is fine with people he knows, but not strangers as he is protective and has nipped at the sleeve of visitors coats. This dog would be great for a hunter without many visitors to deal with.
