Other Info: Rue is an 18 month old Chesapeake Bay Retriever mix weighing 55lbs of pure love. She's one of those special girls who are beautiful inside and out despite what she has lived through. Ruby was pulled by rescue from a high kill southern shelter and placed in a loving foster home where she has excelled at being a wonderful friend and companion. She is already house and crate trained. This gorgeous pooch has great house manners. True to her nature she loves water and will happily frolic in a water or mud puddle if you let her. She is well behaved on car rides. She gets along great with other resident dogs and is wonderful with the 8 year old little human who lives in her foster home. She has been introduced to cats and simply ignored them (you are invisible to me!). UPDATE Foster mom and trainer in NJ has this evaluation of Our sweet teen... Rue is so very comfortable inside our home, she readily settles and doesn’t pester for attention, very low key. She loves to be touched, rubbed and massaged and I use that a lot for reward. She waits for permission to go out the door, into and out of the car, and waits for her meals. She loves to go to her bed and has learned not to go on the furniture…but she definitely needs a soft snuggly place to lie down. When we go outside she immediately is tense and completely disengaged from me. She won’t give her attention for quite a while and is just looking for something to set her off…anything…birds, squirrels get her very excited and if there is a person, bicycle, stroller or worst, another dog in the distance. So to sum it up, I think she needs a home with a solid fence where she won’t have a line of site and that the family looking for a great, affectionate dog to stay home and be part of the family, not one who is looking for a dog to go everywhere with them. She needs experienced handling and over time and continued training will be able to slowly adjust to open area. She is showing great promise and learns quickly. Rescue is unsure of just exactly why Rue is so reactive but feel that having been abandoned and pregnant at a young age contributed to her sense of unease and hyper-vigilance. We feel that with growing confidence through positive reenforced training and lots of love, Rue will settle and be less reactive.
