Working Ability:
Working Comments: Skylar's working ability is unknown. The story we got about Skylar was that he was subjected to a shock collar which was used inappropriately.

Skylar gets along just fine with the other young Chesapeakes, both male and female, in his foster home.

Behavioral Problems:
Other Behavioral Problems:
Bitten? Yes
Bite Explanation: On his way into foster care, he had a stop over with a very nice man who made the mistake of trying to pry a chipmunk out of Skylar's mouth. Skylar took offense that he wasn't allowed to keep his catch and bit the man.
Commands known:
  • Sit
  • Down
  • Come
Tricks: roll over
Other Info: Skylar would do best in a controlled environment as he has a tendency to go into sensory overload and his reaction to overstimulation is not pretty. He has had very little socialization and prefers to self-entertain. He's not quite sure what to make of other dogs and is not a cuddler or "velcro dog" with humans. He likes to be in the vicinity of his people so he certainly has potential to make a lovely companion.

UPDATE 3/25/2013: He is a typical teenage chessie, even taking into account the chipmunk incident. He needs a firm hand as he is a very smart boy! Tonight, he was with us in the office while we dined on KFC. We found out all the things he will do for a potato wedge. He sits (which already knew he could do); he shakes; he knows down; and he rolls over. And, boy, can he jump!

Update 08/19/2013: Skylar adores swimming in the pool and playing with the other dogs in his foster home. He plays fetch like a champ and would make a great companion dog for someone who understands Chesapeakes.
