Age: 5
Color: Brown
Sex: male
Weight: 95 lbs
Neutered? yes
Vaccines:
  • Rabies
  • DHLPP
  • Kennel Cough
Heartworm Negative? Unknown
Health Conditions: Emmet has been diagnosed with Hypothyroidism and will require daily synthetic hormone replacement and occasional monitoring blood tests for the rest of his life. This condition has caused areas of hair loss and an overall thinning of his coat. Now that replacement therapy has started, his coat condition may resolve partially or completely...only time will tell.
Housetrained? yes
Dog surrendered to Rescue because: Other
Other Reason: Emmet has a dominant male personality and has shown an aggressive tendency toward non-submissive dogs in his territory. This heightened territoriality resulted in a dog fight when an unknown dog strayed onto the property. The other dog needed stitches. Emmet's aggressive territoriality does not extend to meeting other dogs on neutral ground. He is looking for a home where he can be an only dog.
Good With:
  • Strangers
Dog Likes:
  • Retrieving
  • Car Rides
Working Ability:
Working Comments: Emmet has an excellent nose -- his nose led him to a Kong ball stashed on the upper shelf of a closed spice cabinet. He may have had some minimal hunt training as a young dog, but he has not been used for hunting.
Behavioral Problems:
  • Other
Other Behavioral Problems: Emmet will chase a cat if the cat runs...it is one of his favorite games.
Bitten? No
Bite Explanation:
Commands known:
  • Sit
  • Stay
  • Down
  • Come
Tricks: He is rusty on basic commands, but clearly understands. He has a very highly developed desire to please and will adapt to any household routine or requirement.
Other Info: The first item on Emmet's agenda each day is play. Items 2 though 10 on his To Do list? Play, play, play... He meets new people with the expectation that they have come into his world to throw the ball for him. He is great off lead and won't stray from his territory. If you are looking for an active, playful fetching fool of a Chesapeake...this boy is for you. However, if you are looking for an affectionate, calm indoor companion who wants nothing more than to curl up next to you on the sofa and put his head in your lap...this boy is also for you. We have lots more observations of Emmet's behavior in different settings -- Please call or email for more information on Emmet's hypothyroidism, behavior, or for more photos.
