Health Conditions: DNA test confirms our girl is half Chesapeake and half brittany spaniel. We had to see what our unique cutie pie was, attitude of a chessie and a high pray drive of a spaniel.

Dog surrendered to Rescue because: Turned over by shelter
Other Reason:
Good With:
  • Other Dogs
Dog Likes:
  • Water
  • Retrieving
  • Car Rides
Working Ability:
Working Comments: Very athletic girl, found that she is very good at walking on her hind legs! She is very interested in squirrels, birds, and anything else that moves, so we would be reluctant to place her in a home with a cat at this time. Foster home does not have cats so she has not been cat tested. Visited pet store today, Misty sniffed the kenneled cats, one snarled at her and she was totally indifferent to them. So it's one of those things where it depends on owners training her to leave them alone and cats experience with dogs.
Behavioral Problems:
Other Behavioral Problems: She's a puppy still, will chew puppy blanket and dog beds. Update 12/13, she loves her blanket, it has survived! She always has it in her kennel at night, then she brings it out with her to snuggle.
Bitten? No
Bite Explanation:
Commands known:
  • Sit
  • Down
  • Bathroom Command
Tricks: This girl is smart! Treat and play motivated. Hits the bell on the door to go outside and catches treats and toys thrown to her. Knows, go up (as we approach the back of the house deck stairs), No, and kennel command.
Other Info: Update 1/30 Our Misty is back, in the excitement of being able to adopt this little girl, our adopter was blind to her quirks, even after long conversations. Misty does not automatically trust people, unless they offer her a treat first. We are working on our girls social skills and she is now in Illinois where those chessie savvy people think she is a hoot too! Update 12/15 I just had to figure out what this little chessie mix was mixed with and DNA test confirmed half Chesapeake and half spaniel. I have never done this before with a foster, there was no doubt she was part chessie to me, but for the adopter I felt they would love to know. Full DNA results will be included in her adoption packet. She has a routine down, out potty, eat, play, then sleep... still just a puppy, love how she concentrates on every word I say. Confident little girl. Update 12/1 Visited pet store today, a little timid of men at first, played with female shoppers, and was great with male store clerk! She absolutely loved the pet store, I think she investigated every corner, every toy bend, and really wanted me to bring her home a new dog bed. Not yet for this one, she thinks it a game to "kill" the bed. She is awesome in the car, road in the back seat untethered looking out the windows then finally lay down to relax. She would do a soft roo grrrr at people walking by in the parking lot, I guess she wanted me to know they were there. She is a hoot! But will need continued training, we guess her to be between 6 to 10 months old. Update 11/26 Our girl is feeling great all healed from spay and learning in door manners. Loves playing fetch and thinks every dog loves her, which is only a problem when you have other dogs not interested in playing or having a young pup in their face and jumping around them. This girl is not afraid of anything! Typical stubborn chessie even if she is a mix. Needs an active home with lots of love and patients. Loves to be loved on, no food or toy aggression at all. She is very sweet and my husband does enjoy her little pushy ways, we chuckle at her constantly. Update 11/13. This girl is a little sassy girl, she will bark at all new people she meets, so have a pocket of treats then she's your best friend. Loves to play fetch, although we still need to work on release, high energy girl. Crates well and quiet, unless she hears something and will alert you, or she really needs out to do her business. Misty is new to rescue. She is well behaved in her crate and has not had an accident in the house since her first days, when she was new and scared. She knows where she's supposed to take care of business and is good about holding it and about letting you know she needs to potty. She is learning about leash walking, and her leash manners get better every day. She is about 10 months old and may be mixed with something, but she is at least half chessie. She's sweet, petite, smart, happy and lovable. She has the attitude and the loving part down pat. Sweet girl with lots of potential! We will update her as we get to know her - you may also see more pictures of her on our Facebook page at North Central Chesapeake Bay Retriever Relief & Rescue.
