“Flynn Flannigan” came to us August 30, 2023 as a rescue. But the love, happiness and goofy attitude he had rescued all of us during what has been two of the most painful years of our lives, for our extended family.
Flynn kept us laughing. He kept us focused on routines, games, laughter, ducks, balls, and his endless joy for waking up and sharing each day with everyone. He greeted us daily with the best chessie smile, complete with sound effects. That smile went from his mouth, spread across his body, and included butt wiggles and a vibrant tail wag. He loved with his entire body and often woke my mom by bumping his butt against her. He LOVED EVERYONE who entered our house or yard. He loved absolutely EVERYONE, especially family dealing with disease or death and grief! He loved his buddies at home; the feral Chickitty cat, whom Flynn called to come inside with a special bark. He loved his chickens and valiantly chased off a coyote, but made it drop his chicken first. He loved our big tortoises. He loved Natasha best, and he missed her when she died, but he carried on. He watched over and protected everyone.
Two and a half years of his 5 year life was not enough time with Flynn. His big heart had so much love to give. In his final hour, he took time to raise his head, look us in the eyes separately, hold that gaze, and lick our cheek or hands. He was comforting us and wiping our tears while thanking us and giving a chessie farewell.
He wasn’t rescued. He rescued us!
